Make: Cornwall is a book about 25 craftspeople in the South West, featuring portraits of the makers, their workplaces and their products, as well as inspiring landscapes from around the county. While demonstrating the diversity and quality of contemporary craft in the far West, the book is also about the joy of the hand made, the passion and integrity of makers, and the power of a very special place.

Aiming to shine a light on some of the most exciting makers working in Cornwall today – and to look behind the scenes of their working lives – Ponsanooth-based photographer Anya Rice, together with writer Katherine Sorrell, who lives in Penzance, travelled the length and breadth of the county, from St Ives to St Austell, Padstow to Penryn, to find, photograph and interview their selection of craftspeople.

After more than two years in research and production, Make: Cornwall has just launched. The high quality, limited-edition hardback book has an elegantly minimal design and a striking cover that features a cyanotype image (an early form of photography) of local seaweed created by Falmouth-based lifestyle brand Paper Birch. Inside the book is a world of intriguing, hand-made pieces: beach plastic jewellery, sunglasses made from denim, digital embroidery, bespoke surfboards, sustainable clothing… and lots more.
